4-H’er Taylor Robb Awarded AgriVenture Global Scholarship
Ottawa, ON, February 10, 2015 – 4-H Canada is pleased to announce that Taylor Robb of Maidstone, SK has been awarded the 2015 AgriVenture Global Scholarship.
As this year’s recipient, Robb will receive $3,000 in scholarship funding towards a once-in-a-lifetime experience living and working internationally on a farm for 4-12 months. Robb, who is currently a Grade 12 student at Maidstone High School, is considering an AgriVenture program in New Zealand or Australia. She will graduate June 2015, and plans to take a year off to enjoy the AgriVenture Global Scholarship opportunity beginning in fall 2015.
“Being from Canada, where we have short growing seasons and graze our animals for 4- 5 months a year, will be an interesting experience to farm with longer growing seasons and warmer weather,” said Robb, who has been an active 4-H’er for the past 10 years, most recently with the St. Walburg 4-H Club.
Robb went on to say, “I want to get a unique life experience. We all live in the same world but our lives are all so different. I hope to see how someone on another continent, with basically the same goal of producing food, accomplishes it with different agricultural practices due to climate, terrain and culture.”
Allison Sarauer, AgriVenture Program Co-ordinator for Canada, was pleased to present the 2015 scholarship to Robb. “Taylor will be a terrific ambassador for 4-H and AgriVenture because of her background in agriculture and her community involvement.”
AgriVenture provides cultural and work experiences to young adults aged 18-30. Robb has a choice of dairy, beef, sheep or crop placement opportunities in a variety of host countries, including New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, Denmark, and Sweden.
Robb was chosen by 4-H Saskatchewan as the provincial candidate for the scholarship, and joined others from across Canada in the competition. Scholarship applicants, between the ages of 18 and 30, with two years of 4-H experience, are welcome to apply to their 4-H provincial office by November 1, 2015.
