Norma Ansloos accepts the 2017 National Volunteer Leader of the Year Award

4-H in Canada owes everything to its volunteers.

In fact, our strength lies in this collection of individuals who, every day and in every way, make exceptional efforts for young people in their communities.

One such individual is Norma Ansloos, recipient of the 2017 4-H Canada National Volunteer of the Year award. Norma has been a leader for Alberta’s Springbank Rawhides 4-H Club since 1988. An active and dedicated volunteer, Norma participates in the annual fall fair, maintains the local equestrian park, and is a strong advocate for her 4-H club and its members.

The award that Norma received, presented to her at the 2018 4-H Leadership Summit and generously supported by The Co-operators, recognizes the pivotal role volunteer leaders play in the 4-H program.

It’s important to note that nominations for the award come from 4-H members themselves: youth who want to acknowledge and celebrate the positive impact their leaders have had on them and their communities.

Every day, we hear inspiring testimonials from 4-H’ers across the country about people like Norma Ansloos.

Every day, we hear stories of the positive influence that one particular volunteer leader had in their life, and how a small gesture or kind word from a caring 4-H volunteer went on to form the cornerstone of their belief system.

And every day, we are grateful for the more than 7,700 dedicated 4-H volunteers who are helping to shape generations of Canadians seeking positive change in the world.
