Youth empowerment and leadership are at the core of the 4-H program, and one shining example of this is the Members Voice Committee.

The Members Voice Committee provides a space for members to realize their leadership potential and have their voices heard. Originally made up of two senior members from each province, as well as the provincial ambassadors, the first Members Voice Committee was created in Nova Scotia in 2018 by Ella Lentz. Members from across the province met to share a variety of perspectives to create positive change within the 4-H program in Nova Scotia.

Like many other aspects of the 4-H program, the committee struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the transition and increased utilization of virtual meeting platforms are giving it a second life! The committee consists of 10 active members - chaired by myself, and overseen by a board representative and a 4-H Nova Scotia representative.

The Members Voice Committee provides member perspectives on board decisions, including trips, awards, member retention and involvement, and member events. In an exciting development, the committee is expanding its focus to actively engage in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in Nova Scotia.

The Committee has made significant strides in increasing its presence across various media platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram. This outreach has increased connectivity within the 4-H community and extends to youth across the province, allowing us to promote 4-H and its values to a larger audience. The Committee's core objective is to enhance the 4-H program in Nova Scotia, ensuring it aligns with the evolving needs and aspirations of our youth leaders.

In the future, I am optimistic about the growth and involvement of the committee in 4-H within the province, and I see the possibility for growth in size and strength going forward. I want the Committee to be a place for young leaders to evolve and find their voice among their peers and fellow leaders.
