My Plate and the Planet

4-H Canada’s Healthy Living Initiative is a series of resources and activities available to 4-H’s 8,700 volunteer leaders, 23,500 youth members and their families, as well as youth and families beyond 4-H to support their health and well-being.

My Plate and the Planet

My Plate and the Planet is an opportunity for youth to learn about the food we eat and the world around us, participate in hands-on activities, and have some 4-H fun in your own home! It’s the last of three focus areas on healthy living from the Healthy Living Initiative.

Activity Book

The Activity Book has all the background information youth will need for learning about the food we eat, with instructions for exciting hands-on activities that build upon learning at home or as a 4-H club.

In this activity book, you will find everything you need to know about food security at home and around the world, along with hands-on activities, and instructions on how to grow and make your own salad!

The Activity Book can be used by youth individually, by families at home, or by leaders and their 4-H clubs who are gathering virtually or in person.

Activity Kit

The My Plate and the Planet Activity Kit helps facilitate learning on food literacy and food security, either at home or as a club, with materials to accompany the My Plate and the Planet Activity Book.

While the Activity Kit has materials for some of the activities, you can still use the Activity Book to explore the food we eat at home through all the hands-on activities.

Registration to receive an Activity Kit has closed. Check out the Activity Book above for fun food activities you can do at home!
