Meet the Winners of the 2021 4-H Canada Science Fair

Ottawa, Ontario – Mar. 12, 2021 – 4-H Canada is proud to announce the three winners of the 4-H Canada Science Fair, held virtually from Mar. 2-6. These young scientists will be moving on to compete against the best and the brightest from across the country at the Canada Wide Science Fair, taking place May 17 to 21, 2021.

The 4-H Canada Science Fair is the annual program providing 4-H youth members with an opportunity to advance their skills in STEM while exploring their personal passions through the development of experiments, innovations, and inventions. The event is made possible through the generous support of 4-H Canada’s Science & Technology Pillar Partner Bayer Crop Science Inc., as well as funding from the Government of Canada and the University of Saskatchewan College of Agriculture and Bioresources.

Mac D. also received the regional distinction of the Ted Rogers Innovation Award for her project, A Novel Approach to Improving Biosecurity in Hatching, from Youth Science Canada. This award recognizes participants of regional science fairs demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit by developing a project that demonstrates commercial potential.

“Congratulations to the participants and winners and finalists of the 2021 4-H Canada Science Fair for their inspiring projects covering a diverse set of topics from environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture to innovative technologies and consumer behaviours. These youth are demonstrating their passion in addressing global challenges as young leaders dedicated to positively impacting their communities and the world around them,” said Shannon Benner, 4-H Canada CEO. “Thank you to our partners Bayer Crop Science Inc., for their commitment to empowering 4-H youth in their exploration of STEM, as well as our other supporters and partners.”

The 4-H Canada Science Fair is part of 4-H Canada’s ongoing commitment to furthering science and technology skills and knowledge development for youth through 4-H programming. As interest in STEM programs continues to grow across 4-H, 4-H Canada and Bayer Crop Science Inc. are working together to ensure youth have access to experiential learning opportunities, that better their communities, create global citizens and build leaders of today.

“We are so impressed with the commitment to science-based inquiry and exploration that was evident in all the 4-H Science Fair participants,” said Trish Jordan, Senior Business Partner, Government and Industry Affairs with Bayer Crop Science. “At Bayer, we are driven by our purpose – Science for a Better Life. These 4-Hers are living that purpose through their projects, exploring unique topics and dedicating countless hours to new innovations that truly can have an impact on our day-to-day lives. We can hardly wait to see them apply what they have learned through 4-H and the 4-H Science Fair to do great things in their education, their careers, and their communities in the future.”
