4-H Canada Recognizes Ontario’s Carol Williams as National Volunteer Leader of the Year

Ottawa, Ontario – Feb. 11, 2021 – 4-H Canada is thrilled to announce Carol Williams of Ontario’s Peel 4-H Club as the 2020 National Volunteer Leader of the Year. Proudly sponsored by The Co-operators, the National Volunteer Leader of the Year Award recognizes the leader whose dedication and passion for engaging and empowering youth has made a lasting, positive impact on the lives of the 4-H members in their club. Carol, nominated by two youth from her Peel, Ontario 4-H club, will be honoured with the award at the annual 4-H Canada Leadership Awards held virtually on Feb. 22, 2021.

In her 29-year tenure with 4-H, Carol has organized over 65 clubs for Peel 4-H members, providing opportunities for youth to explore their interests whether related to agriculture, conservation or, most recently during the onset of the COVID pandemic, sewing masks for frontline healthcare workers. Over the years, Carol’s leadership has extended to 4-H governance at both the regional and provincial level. As a result of her tireless efforts, Carol has profoundly enriched the lives of her 4-H youth members.

“I am thrilled to recognize Carol Williams as 4-H Canada’s National Volunteer Leader of the year,” says Shannon Benner, 4-H Canada CEO. “She has provided countless youth with an inclusive environment in which to learn, have fun, and gain lifelong skills, exemplifying what it means to be a 4-H volunteer leader."

“Congratulations to Carol Williams and all the provincial winners for leading by example and making a positive impact in their communities,” said Steve Johnston, Associate Vice-President National Farm Product, The Co-operators. “As long-time sponsors, we are inspired every year by the community leadership demonstrated by 4-H Canada and its members which closely mirrors The Co-operators commitment to improving the well-being and resilience of our communities, particularly among young Canadians.”

In addition to the National winner, 4-H Canada is pleased to announce the following three winners of the Provincial Volunteer Leader of the Year Award:

Dalyse Roberston, Neepawa & Area 4-H Club, Neepawa, Manitoba

Greg Rand, Cornwallis Project 4-H Club, Port Williams, Nova Scotia
