Pollinator Week 2022
What’s All the Buzz About Pollinator Week?
Did you know one in every three bites of food we eat comes from pollination? That’s why programs like Pollinator Week are so important when it comes to raising awareness about pollinators and their role in the environment and food security in Canada and around the world.
Pollinator Week, which takes place this year from June 20 – 26th, is an annual nationally celebrated event in support of pollinator health.
The Proud to Bee a 4-H’er initiative was developed by 4-H Canada and Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security Leadership Development Pillar lead partner, Syngenta Canada. Proud to Bee a 4-H’er provides members with the chance to learn about Canada’s pollinators and support the creation of healthy ecosystems in their communities.
Our free digital Proud to Bee a 4-H’er Activity Book is a fun and interactive resource that includes background information on pollinators, activities, and guides that gets members outside to enjoy nature. To date, more than 165,000 pollinator friendly seed packets have been distributed to 4-H’ers across Canada.
You can download your free activity book from our website.
Support for Proud to Bee a 4-H’er by Syngenta Canada is through its Operation Pollinator program, which is focused on research and partnerships to promote the health and well-being of bees and other pollinators given their essential role in agriculture and nature. The program's mandate is to support activities that enhance biodiversity, habitat, and other practical initiatives that contribute to healthy pollinator populations.
Follow along on our social media pages - Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram - as we’ll be posting fun and interesting facts about some of our favourite pollinators all throughout Pollinator Week.
And bee sure to share and tag us in your own photos of pollinators that you spot in the coming weeks and keep us up to date on how your pollinator-friendly plants are growing!
